Comparison

AccelaStudy® AI Test Prep
vs. Kaplan®

Kaplan has been preparing candidates since 1938 and has taught more of them than anyone.
We are a different shape of product entirely, and for some people the older shape is still the right one.
Here is the comparison with the flattering parts left out.

The short version

The Difference in One Sentence

Kaplan sells you a course for one test, taught by people, built around a fixed set of practice materials.
We sell you a subscription to five tests, taught by an adaptive engine, where the practice material is generated rather than stocked.

Which one is better depends on a question only you can answer: do you learn better with a human in the room holding you to a schedule, or do you learn better with an unlimited supply of targeted practice and a number telling you where you stand? If it is the former, Kaplan's live courses are genuinely good and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If it is the latter, keep reading.

Being honest

Where Kaplan Is the Better Choice

A comparison page where the competitor loses every row is an advertisement, not a comparison.
These are the cases where we would tell you to go with Kaplan.

You need a person, not a platform

Some people study because someone is expecting them on Tuesday at seven. If that is you, an adaptive engine will lose to a live class every time, and no feature list changes that. Kaplan's live courses exist for exactly this.

You want something on paper

We ship no books. If you annotate in the margins, work problems in pencil, and find screens exhausting, that is a real preference and Kaplan's printed materials serve it properly.

You want a score guarantee

Kaplan offers higher-score guarantees on many courses. We do not offer one, because we would rather show you a live probability forecast than promise an outcome we do not control. If a guarantee is what makes the purchase feel safe, take the guarantee.

You are three weeks out and want a schedule handed to you

A structured course with fixed sessions is a reasonable answer to a short runway. Autopilot will build you a plan, but it will not phone you when you skip it.

The case for this

Where We Are the Better Choice

Three of these come down to the same underlying fact: our practice material is generated rather than stocked.

You cannot run out of practice tests

A fixed bank is a resource you have to ration — burn one badly in week two and you have fewer left for the weeks that matter. Sections here are generated per attempt from the blueprint, so taking one costs you nothing you will miss later.

You get a projected score, not a practice-test result

"You scored 1240 on practice test three" is history. A projected section score with a confidence band, aimed at your registered date and updated every session, is a decision-making instrument.

Undecided between two tests costs you nothing

SAT or ACT, GRE or GMAT — both sides of both questions are in the same subscription. Making that decision with a course-purchase model means either guessing or paying twice.

The price is a monthly subscription, not a purchase

$89/mo, cancel whenever. A sibling taking the PSAT/NMSQT next year is not a second purchase; a change of plan in week three is not a sunk cost.

Questions About the Comparison

Are you affiliated with Kaplan?
No. Kaplan is a registered trademark of Kaplan, Inc. We name it here for comparison only. Kaplan does not sponsor, endorse or have any connection to this product.
Why is the Kaplan pricing a range rather than a number?
Because it genuinely is one. Kaplan's price depends on the test, whether the course is self-paced, live online or in person, whether tutoring is included, and what promotion is running. Quoting a single figure would be misleading in one direction or the other, so we quote the band and tell you to check.
Can I use both?
Plenty of people do, and it is a reasonable combination: a structured course for accountability plus an unlimited practice supply for volume. At $89/mo the marginal cost of adding this to a course you have already bought is small.
Do you have live classes or tutoring?
No, and there is no plan to add them. That is a deliberate boundary rather than a roadmap item — the product is an adaptive engine, and we would rather be excellent at that than mediocre at both.
What happens to my progress if I cancel?
Your knowledge profile, gap maps and score history are preserved. Resubscribe later and you pick up where you stopped rather than starting over.
How do I decide?
Take one month here first. It costs $89/mo and it will tell you two things a brochure cannot: your projected score on every test you are considering, and whether you actually study without someone scheduling it for you. Then buy the course if the answer to the second one is no.

Try the Cheaper One First.

One month covers all five tests and produces a projected score for each. If it turns out you need a classroom, you will have lost $89/mo and gained a diagnosis worth more than that.
